Starting Off Fresh

I know that I have been absent for awhile, but that is all about to change! A lot has happened since my last post in November including the recent formation of my duo music group, Twenty-Nine Miles with my co-worker, S. We have had a couple gigs this year in Union at Van Gogh's Ear and are looking for more. Stay tuned for future dates.

On the beer front, another one of my co-workers, lets call her E, graciously asked me roll on her Brewskee Ball team, Brews Springstein this Spring. For everyone who isn't aware, Brewskee Ball is a fantastic sport that marries the infamous boardwalk game, skee ball, with beer. I have been an alternate for the team before, but I have to say knowing that I get to roll every Wednesday for my shot at the high rollers list makes my week a little bit brighter!

Little Bros in Flemmington, NJ

Whenever Hector and I visit my dad in PA we always stop at Little Brothers (http://www.littlebroswine.com/) in Flemmington. While Little Bros. has a fantastic selection of wine and spirits, it has an even better selection micro and import brews that we have ever come across.

Hector and I are always like kids in a candy store when we walk in. We must spend at least 30 min each time we go, perusing each aisle maticulously before walking out with several new and sometimes old faves to enjoy.

On this trip we picked up two brews, Backwoods Bastard and Old Curmudgeon from Founder's Brewery in Grand Rapids, MI (http://www.foundersbrewing.com/home.php). This was my find..I liked the names. After pointing it out to Hector, he did say that it received high ratings in Draft magazine, so we decided to give it a try.

We also got Leinenkugels, Fireside Nut Brown (www.leinie.com) cause I am a big fan of their beer even though it is part of the Miller brewing company.

Taste test to follow shortly...

VOTE BEER '08

On my way back from Mobile, I stopped off in the gift shop to pick up a shirt that caught my eye. Beer '08- Cheer for the Beer.

Definitely will be wearing this to the polls tomorrow.

Beer..Not so good in Mobile, AL

Greetings from Mobile!! I'm currently on the road for work in this charming ghost town and have had the chance to experience some local brews.

Last night a bunch of my collegues and I ventured out to Zea's Rotisserie and Grill, which had a section on the menu for its microbrewery beers, for some food. After working all day I normally would have loved a beer, but for some reason I wasn't feeling it. Someone I was with decided to have a go, but after seeing what the waitress brought out, I was glad I hadn't.

The waitress brought out a bottle of their Amber Lager. A BOTTLE! We were thouroughly confused/disapointed since it definitely positioned itself as having draft. To top it off it wasn't very good.

We decided to tryout the brew scene again, since there are surprising a lot of places down here that claim to be breweries.

Next stop Hurricane Brewery in downtown Mobile. We sat down and I was delighted to see that they had a Pumpkin Spice beer on tap. I have been craving one for awhile...

Verdict: Not much pumpkin way too much spice- RETURNED Which is something I NEVER do that's how bad it was. It kinda tasted like Worcestershire sauce with some other nasty spices.

Next up I tried their Oktoberfest

Verdict: Good bite, with a nice smooth earthy flavor. I wouldn't say it was the greatest Oktoberfest, but after the pumpkin spice I think Miller Lite would have tasted good.

Lessons Learned in Mobile-
If you are a beer drinker and want to find some great southern beer...keep looking :)

*It also didn't help that my boyfriend was in NYC at Brewtopia, one of the world's largest beer events, today.
